The Cubs began playing baseball in Chicago in 1870 as the Chicago White Stockings, joining the National League charter six years later. The White Sox originated in the Western League as the Sioux City Cornhuskers before Charles Comiskey, a former Chicago baseball player and manager, bought them in 1894.
